Toughened Glass Unlimited Colours

Back-Painted Coloured Glass Splashbacks

Back-painted coloured glass splashbacks are made by applying paint to the back of toughened glass and viewing the colour through the face. This gives depth, a consistent gloss finish, and no visible coating texture. The colour range is virtually unlimited and can be matched to any paint system. For whites, creams, and light greys, Opti glass is worth specifying because it removes the green tint of standard glass for true colour accuracy. Heat-resistant and safe behind gas and electric cooktops, they’re non-porous, grout-free, easy to clean, and suit most kitchen and bathroom styles.

Most kitchens, bathrooms and laundries — the most commonly specified type

3 Tinted Finishes Reflective

Tinted Mirror Splashbacks — MirrorKote

MirrorKote tinted mirror splashbacks come in Super Silver, Smokey, and Bronze finishes. What separates them from standard mirror is the tinted base, which softens the reflection and adds light and perceived depth without the stark reflectivity of clear mirror glass. Mirror splashbacks on the Gold Coast work especially well in smaller kitchens and bathrooms where that reflective quality helps the space feel larger. The trade-off is maintenance: fingerprints show more readily than on painted glass, so they need more frequent wiping. They suit contemporary and minimalist spaces, and pair well with black hardware or brushed hardware.

BEST FOR

Smaller spaces where a reflective quality adds perceived size

10 Patterns Non-Porous

Marble-Look Glass Splashbacks — Bel Vetro

Marble-look glass splashbacks use purpose-designed printed glass in 10 on-trend marble patterns. They’re worth considering against real marble for practical reasons: the surface is non-porous, requires no sealing, has no grout lines, and is easier to clean. Lead times are generally shorter, and the cost is lower than real marble or stone splashbacks and installation. The trade-off is consistency. The printed design gives a uniform pattern across the full panel, without the natural variation of stone. For most kitchen renovations, that’s not a drawback — just a predictable, low-maintenance finish that holds up well in a working kitchen.

BEST FOR

Stone aesthetic without the cost, porosity or maintenance of natural marble

UV-Printed Any Design

Custom Printed Glass Splashbacks

Custom printed glass splashbacks allow any high-resolution image or custom design to be digitally UV-printed to the back of toughened glass. Because the print sits behind the glass rather than on the surface, it’s fully protected, durable, heat resistant, and easy to clean. This makes it suitable for kitchens, bathroom renovations, laundries, and feature walls where you want something more individual than a plain colour or standard finish. Custom printed glass splashbacks on the Gold Coast are a practical option for both decorative and functional spaces.

Where They’re Used

Where Glass Splashbacks Work — Beyond the Kitchen

The most common application of glass splashbacks on the Gold Coast is in kitchens, but the same material also works in several other areas of the home.

Kitchen Splashbacks

Behind the cooktop (toughened heat-resistant glass required), behind the sink, as a full-width panel between benchtop and cabinets, or on an island bench front. The most common application.

Bathroom Splashbacks

Behind the vanity or across wet area walls — a practical alternative to tiles. No grout lines means no regrouting, and a non-porous surface handles constant moisture better over time.

Laundry Splashbacks

Behind tubs and benchtops — a durable, low-maintenance option in a space that painted surfaces and tiles don’t handle as well over time.

Feature Walls

Coloured or printed glass used as a living area accent or commercial fit-out element. A growing application for clients wanting something beyond a standard splashback.

During the on-site measure, we advise on the most suitable product type and installation approach for each location in your space.

The Honest Comparison

Glass Splashbacks vs Tiles

Glass SplashbackTile Splashback
Grout linesNone — seamless single panelYes — grout discolours and can mould over time
CleaningSingle surface, wipe cleanGrout requires scrubbing; periodic re-sealing
Heat resistanceYes — toughened glass is safe behind cooktopsDepends on tile type and adhesive
Colour optionsVirtually unlimited (back-painted)Limited to available tile ranges
Custom fitMade to exact dimensions including all cut-outsTiled to fit — grout fills irregularities
Installation timeFaster — one panel, one visitLonger — tile by tile, grout curing time
CostHigher upfront than basic tilesLower upfront; higher maintenance over time
LongevityVery long with proper careDepends on grout maintenance

Glass splashbacks are not the cheapest option upfront. Against a basic tile job, it will cost more. But the maintenance difference is real and accumulates over time — no grout to reseal, no re-tiling when grout stains, no scrubbing around individual tiles. Most Gold Coast homeowners who have used both don’t go back to tiles for kitchen and laundry splashbacks.

Not sure which option you need?
If you’re still deciding between the two, the on-site measure is the right time to work through it — we can advise based on the specific space and how it’s used.

FAQs

Glass Splashback FAQs — Gold Coast

Common questions from Gold Coast homeowners before requesting a quote.

Cost depends on several variables: the product type (back-painted, MirrorKote, Bel Vetro, or printed — printed carries a premium), panel size, glass specification (standard or Opti low-iron), and the number and complexity of cut-outs required. There is no single price that applies across all jobs. REGAL provides a fixed quote on the day of the on-site measure — no waiting, no estimates that change on installation day.

Back-painted glass is a solid colour applied to the reverse of toughened glass — consistent, clean, and suited to colour-driven kitchen and bathroom schemes. Printed glass uses a UV digital process to apply any image or custom design to the back of toughened glass. Both are durable and heat-resistant. Back-painted glass splashbacks suit solid-colour schemes; custom printed splashbacks feature statements and custom imagery.

Yes. Toughened safety glass is heat-resistant and approved for installation behind both gas and electric cooktops. All REGAL splashbacks specified for behind-cooktop installation use toughened glass compliant with AS2208.

Yes. Power point locations, switch positions, and rangehood clearances are measured on-site and cut precisely in at the time of processing. This is not done on-site with a grinder — every cut-out is manufactured to spec before the panel leaves the factory.

Four main types: back-painted coloured glass splashbacks (standard or Opti low-iron for truest colour), mirror splashbacks in MirrorKote tinted finishes (Super Silver, Smokey, Bronze), marble-look glass in 10 patterns, and custom printed glass splashbacks. The comparison table at the top of this page covers each type in detail.

For mirror splashbacks, the maximum single panel width is 2400mm — larger areas are segmented for the best visual result. For coloured and printed glass, panel sizing depends on the space and manufacturing specifications. REGAL advises on joins and panel sizing during the on-site measure. Mirrorkote over 2400mm in one piece can give an illusion of a ‘wave’, so any bigger is recommended to be in sections.

Yes. REGAL services the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Tweed Heads. We come to your Brisbane property for a free on-site measure and provide a fixed quote the same day.

All REGAL glass splashbacks carry a 2-year warranty covering materials and workmanship.

All REGAL shower screens carry a 2-year shower screen warranty. Moving parts — rollers, hinges, pivot pins — are covered for 12 months.

Cleaning a shower screen regularly with a non-abrasive cleaner is all most screens need. For frameless screens, wipe both the glass and hardware after use to prevent water spots and soap scum build-up. See our full guide on how to clean a shower screen for a complete maintenance routine.
