If you’ve just had a new REGAL shower screen installed, one of the first things you’ll want to know is how to clean your shower screen properly. At REGAL, we don’t offer a shower cleaning service; however, after decades of working with homeowners, builders, and renovators across the Gold Coast and Brisbane, we have gained extensive knowledge on how to keep our shower screens looking as good as they did on the day they were installed.

With the right routine, maintenance is simple. A few small habits make all the difference, especially if you opted for our factory-applied shower glass protection during manufacture. That coating helps repel water, reduce build-up, and minimise the need for harsh cleaners.

Today, I’ll guide you through the simple bathroom cleaning routine I use, designed specifically to suit REGAL’s frameless and semi-frameless screens. It’s not about expensive shower cleaning products or deep cleans. It’s about keeping your shower clean the smart way, with expert advice you can trust.

Start with Daily Habits That Prevent Build-Up

The best way to avoid heavy scrubbing down the line is to keep things simple from the start. Every day, I follow the same routine after a shower—it takes less than a minute and makes a huge difference in the long run.

First, I run a squeegee over the glass to remove water before it has a chance to dry and leave marks. It’s the easiest way to stop hard water spots and soap scum building up on the surface.

Next, I leave the screen open if the room’s steamy—this helps air flow through and keeps everything dry. If water is sitting on the brackets, seals, or bottom rail, I’ll wipe it with a cloth so it doesn’t collect and cause long-term residue.

It’s a small routine, but it’s the reason I only need to deep clean my screen once a fortnight. If you’re keen on keeping your shower clean, this daily habit will keep things clear, polished, and low-effort from day one.

Create a Weekly Cleaning Routine

Even if you’ve been using a squeegee daily, it’s worth giving your screen a proper clean once a week. It helps keep everything looking fresh, stops build-up from getting ahead of you, and keeps the finish clear and streak-free.

The Best Way to Clean Shower Glass

I’ve tested numerous products over the years, but this remains my go-to routine—and it’s the one we recommend to all our customers. In a spray bottle, I mix equal parts (50/50) water and a mild detergent, such as dishwashing liquid. I spray it onto the glass and wipe it down with a soft microfibre cloth. This removes any light residue without scratching or wearing down the coating.

Never use scourers, magic erasers, or harsh sprays—they’ll damage the glass or its protective coating. After wiping down the surface, use a clean cloth or towel to dry the glass straight away. It’s the easiest way to avoid streaks and maintain a polished finish on clear glass, where even minor marks tend to stand out.

If you’re looking for extra cleaning ideas, I’ve shared more in our full guide on shower screen cleaning tips. It’s especially useful if you’re working with older glass or tackling marks that have already set in.

Shower Screens with Glass Protection

If your screen was treated with REGAL’s shower glass protection during manufacture, this step will be even easier. That coating helps water bead off the surface instead of drying in place, so you won’t need to scrub or wipe nearly as much.

You should still follow the same basic method, but the difference in effort will be noticeable. Less soap scum, fewer water marks, and much less work over time. That’s one of the reasons it’s become one of our most requested add-ons, particularly for frameless shower screens in busy bathrooms.

How to Tackle Hard Water and Limescale

Even with regular upkeep, mineral deposits can still build up—especially in bathrooms with hard water. They tend to show up as cloudy patches, water streaks that won’t budge, or a gritty residue along the bottom edge of the glass. The good news? You don’t need strong chemicals to fix it.

If you’re wondering how to clean glass shower doors with hard water stains without damaging the surface, this is the safest method I recommend to REGAL customers. Mix a little baking soda with white vinegar to make a soft paste. Apply it with a damp cloth, let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse and gently wipe dry. It works well for very stubborn limescale on shower screens, even if the marks have been there for a while.

For tricky spots—like the base of the screen or around the hinges—I use a soft toothbrush to get into corners without scratching anything. Just go gently, especially around seals and brackets.

The key here is consistency. This method will clean the glass without stripping any protective coating, and it’s what I use myself whenever I notice the glass losing its clarity. You don’t need to do it often—but when you do, it works.

Don’t Forget the Frame, Seals, and Tracks

Even if the glass gets all the attention, it’s the smaller parts—frames, seals, and brackets—that keep your screen functioning long term. These areas are easy to overlook but just as important when it comes to keeping everything clean and working as it should.

How to Clean a Shower Door Frame

To keep things watertight, the seals around your screen need to stay free of grime and build-up. I use a cotton tip or a soft toothbrush to clean along the rubber edges and inside the runners. It helps loosen anything caught in the corners, especially in pivot setups or semi-frameless screens with more hardware.

If you have one of our sliding shower screens, it’s worth periodically vacuuming or gently wiping the sliding track clean. Even fine dust can collect and slow down the rollers or cause uneven wear. Avoid using excessive pressure around silicone or flexible seals—they’re designed to keep water in and should never be scrubbed or lifted.

Shower doors don’t have a full frame, but they still have brackets and hinges that need attention. I recommend wiping them down every couple of weeks to prevent corrosion or residue, especially in coastal areas or homes with hard water.

Knowing how to clean a shower door frame properly might not sound exciting, but keeping the working parts clean is what protects the rest of your screen from early wear. It’s a simple habit that pays off down the track.

A Cleaner Screen That Lasts Longer

Keeping your screen clean doesn’t need to be complicated—and when you get into a rhythm early, the results speak for themselves. Small, consistent habits make all the difference. From daily squeegees to a weekly microfibre wipe-down, these steps help protect the look and performance of your REGAL shower screen for years.

Every screen we install is designed to last, but no product stays looking new without a little care and maintenance. Whether you opted for glass protection during manufacture or not, following the right routine means you won’t have to deal with stubborn build-up or tricky repairs down the line.

If you have any questions about caring for your screen, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re always happy to help with product-specific care advice—because clean glass and a polished finish should last well beyond install day.
